NAVTEX Future

Statements on a new NAVTEX on medium waves:

Authorities are obliged to

check, if NAVTEX material on hand is really as vital to shipping to be transmitted in a 300 miles range or not.

check, if NAVTEX material could kept as short as necessary so that all messages could be sent in a single timeslot

check, if transmissions could be combined with the existing scheme on 518 kHz with an upward compatible method of transmission, so that old NAVTEX receivers could be used with no interference

check, and find out if a more local/regional/sectorial NAVTEX service on VHF is helpfull to cover distances of shorter range on a basis of automatic 'text to speech' of the information on a hourly basis.

take in consideration if other frequencies on HF and VHF are more suitable for a new NAVTEX

discuss, if the proposal of launching 500 kHz for immaterial cultural heritage could given way by nominating a status of 'Normal Frequency' or 'ISM' on forthcomming World Radio Conferences
